John Durham, the United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced this week that 22-year-old Hartford resident Jose Gonzalez - who has aliases that include “Montana,” “Beat Montana,” and Carl Montana - has pleaded guilty in federal court to individual counts of possession with intent to distribute and distribution of heroin and fentanyl.
According to court documents and statements made in court, at approximately 10:30 a.m., on April 26 last year, East Hartford Police and emergency medical personnel were dispatched to a residence on Main Street in East Hartford, where there was a report of an unconscious man who was not breathing. Upon arrival at the scene, first responders found the 20-year-old man, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators would later locate and seize drug paraphernalia, several empty wax baggies, and the victim’s cellphone.
The Medical Examiner later determined that the 20-year-old’s death was caused by “acute intoxication due to the combined effects of alprazolam, fentanyl and heroin.”
Investigation into the man’s death determined that he had traveled to Hartford the night before his death and purchased heroin and fentanyl from Gonzalez. It was ultimately determined that Gonzalez dealt drugs from December 2016 through April 2017. He was arrested on a federal complaint on Nov. 30 last year.
Gonzalez has been detained since his arrest. He is due to be sentenced on Aug. 15, when he will face up to 20 years in prison.
